V. Les Rogers' tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan is one of his most personal works; he went to high school on the Southside of Dallas and Stevie lived in South Oak Cliff. The artist saw the young Stevie play locally many times over the years. This piece captures the raw energy and soul of one of Texas' greatest blues musicians.
When Stevie played live he was intense and electric on the stage. V. Les chose the colors of orange and golden yellow for his face to capture his smoldering presence like a fire burning. You will notice that V. Les made the print of his shirt from the primal figures he paints in many of his works.
The Blue Swath: V. Les has a series of paintings that portray those who are no longer among us. The blue swath across the mouth signifies the prohibition of someone who can no longer speak to us in this physical world but are remembered by us. Note: You will see the blue swath on the lips of "The Swimmer" as well.
Painted in Rogers' signature style of bold brushstrokes and bold color, the work honors the legendary mark Stevie Ray Vaughan left on Texas blues and rock music.
